Yggdrasil, in Norse mythology Yggdrasill, is the name of an ash tree (world ash), which as a world tree embodies the entire cosmos. It is the World Tree because it stands in the centre of the world and connects all worlds with each other. As world axis (axis mundi) it connects the three levels Asgard, Midgard and Helheim.
